Solche privaten Geldgeber haben besonders in den USA einen großen Einfluss auf die Forschungslandschaft, obwohl ihre Auswahlkriterien und Transparenz umstritten sind und die Verbindung von Wissenschaftlern und reichen Technokraten das Vertrauen in die Wissenschaft verringern kann.
